Pinole / El Sobrante / Hercules

Pinole, El Sobrante and Hercules are quiet little towns located just south of Rodeo.  The housing costs are generally lower in these areas and you can find a plethora of new home developments.  Although the commute to the city is longer, many people prefer to live here for the larger homes and the peaceful suburban atmosphere.  Schools for each city are part of West Contra Costa Unified School District.

Pinole

Pinole is known for its warmer weather, abundant shopping, and hometown quality.  Located off of I-80 between El Sobrante and Hercules, Pinole has grown by leaps and bounds over the last decade.  Target, Michaels, Bev Mo and Pier 1 Imports make up part of the shopping; and just about every fast food restaurant and chain make up the eating.  The city is known for it’s festivals, including the Festival of the Arts, Northern California Cruisers’ Car Show, Sounds in the Park, and the 4th of July Festival at Fernandez Park.   Looking for some good food with a warm atmosphere?  Be sure to head to downtown Pinole (not to be confused with the shopping district off of the 80) and stop by the Pear Street Bistro

El Sobrante

El Sobrante is located about 10 minutes north of Berkeley and is located near regional parks including Wildcat Canyon and San Pablo Reservoir where fishing is allowed and hiking is majestic.  The weather is generally warmer and tends to miss the fog surrounding the bay.  This small, unincorporated and semi-rural community has produced some of the world’s greatest music talents: Kirk Hammett of Metallica, John Fogerty of CCR, John Kiffmeyer of Green Day, as well as several members of Primus.

Hercules

Established as a dynamite factory in the 1800s and incorporated in 1900, the City of Hercules is located on the northeastern shore of San Pablo Bay, conveniently located along the I-80 corridor and within minutes of both San Francisco and Napa. The nearly 25,000 residents represent a diverse mix of many ethnic groups. Primarily a suburban, family-oriented community, the City has bold plans for a new town center, a lively new waterfront, and an exciting new train and ferry terminal.
