Alameda

Ask anyone who lives on the Island and they will say it is the Crown Jewel of the Bay.  I might have to agree.  Alameda boasts tree-lined streets, vintage architecture, excellent schools, and miles of shoreline with amazing views of San Francisco.

During the summer months Alameda is one of the best places to catch a sunset.  Where else can you gaze at the sun as it sets with the Bay Bridge in the foreground and the San Francisco skyline in the background?  The weather here is very gracious- it is often warmer here than in other parts of the Bay.

Alameda has undergone some very impressive redevelpment over the past few years.  Park Street is alive with commercial business, including the Alameda Marketplace, Julie’s Coffee & Tea Garden, and the preservation and renovation of the Alameda Theater.  Looking for a good sandwich?  Stop by Dimitra’s and order the Dimitra’s half sub.  Head up Park and you will come upon the Alameda Towne Center (formerly the South Shore Shopping Center).  With the addition of Border’s and Trader Joes, the Towne Center has become a flourishing destination and gathering point the residents of Alameda and the surrounding areas.

Alameda Point, site of the former Alameda Naval Air Station, is being converted to new residential neighborhoods, shopping districts, recreational facilities and business parks. All by the shores of San Francisco Bay with spectacular vistas of the Bay, its bridges, and the City of San Francisco, just a short ferry-ride away.

The homes in Alameda are extremely diverse.  You will find a large array of condos and apartments, newly constructed developments, and homes over 100 years old.  Each year the Alameda Architectural Preservation Society hosts a Alameda Legacy Home Tour.

The schools in Alameda are top-quality and many who live there say the schools played a major role in their decision to move there.  It is the parents in this community who demand this excellence, and recently a measure was passed to ensure that the schools remain top notch.
